Thanks everyone for all the likes, peer awards, comments, etc. on my photo The Lone Bagpiper. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a Staff Winter Selection for this year and it is also a finalist in the Amazing Silhouettes Contest. I appreciate all the posts this photo is generating.

Thanks for entering this into my own 'silhouettes challenge'. I've got to decide a winner very soon out of 100's of entries and just thought I'd say it's at least in my top 5. Much editing, or pretty much as it was taken?

Location
This photo was taken outside The Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, CA.Time
The photo was taken at sunset and we happened to have an incredible night to view the bagpipe ceremony.Lighting
No special lighting was used. The sunset speaks for itself.Equipment
The camera was a Nikon D80. The shot was taken without a tripod, flash, or any other lighting accessories.Inspiration
I was visiting my niece and her family in California and they didn't live far from this location. They had been wanting to see the bagpiper since they had lived there, but had never gone. We decided to go and even though the sky was not looking that great at sunset, it all of a sudden turned these amazing colors. I have photographed a number of bagpipers in Scotland, but this rivaled any of the other shots I had taken.Editing
I did no adjustments on the lighting and warmed up the photo just slightly. In my camera bag
One camera body, several lenses, filters, off-camera flash, flash benders, extra batteries, cleaning equipment.Feedback
Just keep shooting and never give up on what might appear to be a so-so sky. A lot of times I find photographers leave as soon as the sun sets, but if you wait from a few minutes to a half an hour or so, the sky can dramatically change. I never leave a sunset until the sky is almost black with night.
