Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my back yard, in Bradenton, Florida. As you can see, there are puffy grey storm clouds brewing to the left and I noticed that if I took the shot at an angle below the Pine and Oak, it made a beautiful composition with the clouds, branches in silhouette, and the needles of the pine glowing with the orange shades of the clouds behind.

Time

Approx 8pm

Lighting

I managed to get the shot before it got too dark.

Equipment

This shot was taken with my trusty Kodak Easyshare Z990 ~ this camera goes everywhere with me!

Inspiration

The composition of building storm clouds, streaky sunset and branch silhouette. The sky is so often my inspiration; in all its moods.

Editing

This photo didn't need much editing, just a little temperature, however, on reflection I probably should have chopped the lower bushes in the foreground.

In my camera bag

I don't carry a bag of equipment, just my camera so I can take a shot in the moment it occurs. I don't see myself as a photographer who understands or works with fancy equipment, rather I think I have an eye, and because I love nature, travel and walking, I see opportunities for great shots every day in almost any situation.

Feedback

My advice for taking a good shot is to move around until you see the best composition (lying down, side-ways, upside down even!). There's a shot virtually everywhere. What may appear simple, can be stunningly beautiful. I think captivating photography begins with awe at the beauty all around us. Being in the moment with camera, we are able to capture a hard copy of wonderful moments in time, and hold them in our sight forever. Photography is not just a creative outlet for me, it also brings joy, reverence and gratitude for this amazing world we live in.
