Location
This photo was taken in West Bradenton, Florida where I live... I noticed several extremely large leaves fallen in a heap. I removed one from the pile and laid it along the natural shell pathway.Time
The photo was taken approximately 8am on a beautiful sunny day.Lighting
No special lighting was used; the leaf and backdrop lent itself to natural lighting.Equipment
I used my trusty Nikon 3300 standard 18-55mm lens. I never use a tripod or any other paraphernalia; I prefer spontaneous shots and so like to be unencumbered.Inspiration
I am inspired by beauty and see it everywhere. I saw these huge, beautiful leaves lying in a heap, and realized the pathway would make a superb backdrop; I loved the way the leaves were beginning to curl up at the edges and that color almost matched that of the ground. I loved the deep textures within the leaf and its deep, nut brown color. I had no idea this shot would garner so much interest, but I see the beauty is in its simplicity.Editing
I really don't think this photo needed anything but maybe a little cropping and warmth. In my camera bag
I don't carry a bag of equipment. Just my camera, nature and me.Feedback
My advice for capturing a similar shot to this one is to keep your eyes open and use imagination. Often the simplest thing can be beautiful when seen in a different lighting, different backdrop or location. For example, if you see a stunning pebble or small stone that can be placed on a contrasting background to bring out the beauty of the stone or pebble. Being creative keeps me continually interested in photography; don't be afraid to lie down for your shot, or take it sideways on. Nature is full of contrast; which makes it beautiful ... this is what I see, and what we are able to share.
