This photo was taken on my dining room table. Patches was one very adorable kitten from our momma kitties first litter of kittens. He was a perfect little model.Time
I took this photo mid-morning to take advantage of the nice window light coming into the dining room.Lighting
I really wanted a light and bright feel. I prefer natural light, but these kittens move fast so I added a little bounce from some natural daylight balanced continuous lights.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon 5Diii with the 24-70L 2.8 lesn. The little birch vase was a neat little find at JoAnne's fabrics!Inspiration
I was inspired as soon as I found the little vase - I thought it would look great with our kittens in it!Editing
I did my very basic clean edit - a little bump in exposure and vibrance and sharpness in photoshop. In my camera bag
Too much equipment! Time to pair down. Right now I have a Canon 5Diii, 7D, and 70D. My favorite lenses are the following Canon lenses: 16-35L, 24-70L, 70-200L, 50 1.2L, 85 1.4, and several Canon flashes!Feedback
Any time you're working with animals, especially baby animals the first things you need in large supply are patience and time. I had a bit of an advantage here with having the cutest little subjects right here in my home. I could wait until they got sleepy or right after they ate. That saying about "herding cats" is so true...it's pretty difficult to get them to stay in one place. It helps to have little cat toys to catch their attention and get them to look their way. Even better to have an assistant but I didn't have that luxury. so I was dangling cat toys towards my light with one and shooting with the other. I also feel like the more simple the prop set up the more your subject is able to shine!
