Interesting catch of the undercarriage. Very good. We live in Central California, so these birds are a treat for us. Our Bald Eagle should be showing up soon. It comes down from your area. You are welcome to check it out in my gallery.

Location
I took this photo while walking along the Bow River in Calgary.Time
This was taken in the mid-afternoon on a sunny day.Lighting
I like to shoot in natural lighting, I usually use spot metering to help light the shadows.Equipment
I shot this on my D3100 with a Sigma 150-500 lens while handheld. When I'm out looking to photograph birds I use auto ISO to help light the shadows.Inspiration
I was out hoping to find Bald Eagles and I got lucky by being directly under the tree that it was perched on.Editing
I did minor adjustments in PS, I brought the highlights down and the shadows up a touch. I shoot in manual mode so that I can control the shutter speed and aperture, then it's less time to post-process.In my camera bag
When I am out looking for wildlife I like to have the Sigma 150-500 on a D800 body.Feedback
One piece of advice I can give is to learn about the animal that your interested in photographing and don't despair if you don't get to see it, wildlife is not always predictable.
