Location
Shot was taken in Rovinj, Croatia, while I was there for vacation. One day, I was cycling back from the beach through the woods and spotted these huge, impressive spider nets. I had my 24-70 mm lens on the camera which was not the right one for the purpose. Cycled home and back, this time with my 180 mm, f3,5 macro lens. Then I started to search for a spider....Time
It was a very hot, sunny day in summer around 2 PM. I was sweating a lot while making the shot.Lighting
To have the lighting I wanted, I had mounted my speed light 580 together with small easy light softball on it.Equipment
Canon 5d Mk3, Speedlight 580, softbox. Tripod was not used for this shot.Inspiration
I have noticed the position of the spider in the net and imagined I wanted the show the view and drama of the bug which is just about to be eaten.Editing
Photo was converted to monochrome. I always tweak the contrast, shadows, blacks and whites and a bit of clarity. In my camera bag
Depending where I go and what will I shoot. Either Leica M240 mostly used with WATE 16-18-21mm, f4 or 35 mm, f2. When I take out my Canon 5d Mk3, then preferred lens is 24-70mm, f 2.8. For macro I use 180mm, f 3.5 and M-e 65mm, f2.8Feedback
When shooting macro, most of the time the eye bug level works the best. In my opinion, with the use of flash and diffuser can be achieved much better results than without so I have them always mounted.
