Some days you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. This was taken at the top of Old Man Storr on the Isle of Skye just as a change of weather was sweeping through from the west.Time
For once not an early start! I'm not big on early starts, particularly not when on holidays. This was taken a little bit before mid-morning, in between bouts of glorious sunshine and wind and hail!Lighting
I wanted to keep this photo fairly natural as the beaut of the Isle speaks for itself. There's a touch of added vibrance and some toning down of the highlights to draw attention to that weather change coming in fast from the right hand side of the photo.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon D7000, Nikon AF-S 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 ED.Inspiration
I can't say I'm too fond of climbing up things. A lot of effort and sweat involved. About the only thing that convinces me to do it is the promise of a good picture from the top. That was definitely the case with this shot - you can see all the way back over to the west coast of Scotland from this point on the Isle of Skye.Definitely couldn't resist trying to capture that change in weather either. Some moments are just imprinted in your mind and this (along with the freezing cold hail that followed) is one of them!Editing
Surprisingly little! The contrast has been increased slightly as has the vibrance and the highlights in the sky toned down slightly. In my camera bag
I've only got three lenses currently for my Nikon D7000. Apart from the Nikon AF-S 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 ED used for this photo, I have the mid-range Nikon 18-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED and have recently purchased the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD which sometimes won't make the bag given the weight... A few other essentials are my fitlers, an IR fiter and a (wait for it) purple hippopotamus who despite being fairly large and heavy, accompanies me up all my mountains and round different cities (https://anintrepidhippo.wordpress.com/).Feedback
Watch the weather forecast and be happy when you ave a non beautiful sunny day. There's nothing I like better than some beautifully contrasting clouds. And yes, whilst I absolutely delight in a good sunrise and sunset, you don't always have to give up your sleep to get that perfect shot (especially not when the sun is rising at 4:30am in Scotland...)
