Location
While on a tour of St. Marteen, in the Virgin Islands, our tour guide asked us if we would like to stop and meet some of his friends. When we exited the van, from out of the brush came about 30 of these critters all scurrying about hoping to nab some of the banana peels our tour guide was offering. This one caught my eye because of the beautiful colorful head he has.Time

I shot this lizard hand held with my canon 5D mark III with my 70-200 canon L lens.Inspiration
This lizard stood out from the rest. First off he was so colorful. I never saw one of these creatures will such pretty colors. Secondly, he was so animated..He looked on as another lizard was snacking on a banana peel and he kept trying to nab a piece. His tongue hung out the whole time.Editing
I processed this image in camera raw in Adobe Photoshop CS6. I also used a NIK plug in called viveza and quick selected some areas on his body and boosted up the structure tab to bring out more detail in his body. I did some minor clean up of the background with the cloning tool and content aware in photoshop. Lastly, I adjusted the levels and sharpened him a little bit, too.In my camera bag
When I head out on a shoot the items that I never leave home without are my Canon 5D Mark III, My 70-200mm f 2.8 L lens, and my 28-70 f 2.8 Tamron SP Lens. If I am shooting people I bring along my Canon 85mm f 1.8. I also always bring my Canon 600 EXRT flash. Never know when you might need some fill flash. Some filters like a neutral density and polarizing filter are always in my bag, too. A large reflector and of course my tripod..Feedback
A shoot like this one works best if you hand hold your camera, These critters move around so quickly that it would be too hard to follow them with your camera on a tripod. A fast shutter speed is necessary and a telephoto lens so you can capture them without having to get too close because you would probably spook them. The telephoto also helps to blur the background so the attention stays on the subject. An aperture of f 8 or f 11 will help to keep the image sharp.
