This photo was taken on my one and only trip to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. It's an amazing place for photography enthusiasts, as well as gardeners and flower lovers.Time
I took this in the early afternoon after a rainy and overcast morning. This night flowering water lily was just starting to close in the afternoon sun, having been fooled by the dark rainy morning. I was in the right place at the right time to capture the color and the leftover raindrops on the petals of this flower.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, old fashioned sunlight.Equipment
This was taken with my "good" camera, a Sony cybershot. I did not need to use a tripod or flash since the sun was so bright.Inspiration
I was excited to get this shot mainly because this water lily normally only opens at night, so the dismal weather in the morning was to my benefit. I also was drawn by the color of the petals and the striking yellow center.Editing
I did no post processing on this photo at all, not even a crop. I'm an amateur and I prefer to get as natural a shot as I can, including the framing of the shot. I like to test myself that way. I consider it my best work if I can capture a picture as my eye saw it, with nothing added, subtracted, fudged, or focused. In my camera bag
Being an amateur, I only have one decent camera, a Sony cybershot, now about 10 years old. When I know I'll have an opportunity to take photos, I always pack extra AA batteries!! This camera uses batteries up like crazy, and before you ask, yes, I've tried rechargables. I can't carry enough of those with me when I'm using this camera. LOLFeedback
Fill the frame with what you love, and the picture will take itself.
