Down wind of the mountains when the atmosphere is stable you often get stratus cloud with what appear to be waves, in fact when this effect is more pronounced you can get what is referred to as Mountain Wave forming Altocumulus Lenticularis cloud. This image was taken just before sunset near Didsbury Alberta Canada when there was a little color in the sky.
