Look at the perfect little eyes! Funny thing is, I though she was a boy because she looked like she had developed pedipalps, but I guess it's just the way she's holding her right one. I love this shot! I can tell you share my passion for getting people to see the little beings looking back at them when they look at little critters.

You are right, he is a she. She was carrying babies on her back. I always love to get lost in the weeds, woods, fields and look down to see the entire amazing world that we don't pay attention to everyday. It's like a whole other universe below our knees, full of amazing little creatures. You just have to look.

How do you get such perfect focus on their eyes? I never seem to be able to get that. I don't know whether it's me or the equipment. I can't afford a DSLR, so I shoot with a little Fuji bridge camera, I suspect it's a technique thing, though -- that I just don't know how to do it.

This is wonderful! I love everything about it, from the flashes of her colors on her face to the perfectly out of focus water drops on the grass. I am immersed into her world. Thanks for sharing this!

:) I love little creatures!!!! Too many get a bad rap... they are all so amazing. I'm always hunting bugs in the weeds.

Great Shot! Really well done and surprisingly little noise for such high ISO. Congrats on your win!

It was a cloudy summer morning in June.Equipment
Canon T3i with a 50mm f/2.5 compact macro lens.Inspiration
I spend most of my weekend mornings in the weeds or the woods looking for leaf hoppers, lady bugs, flies, spiders, tiny flowers, mushrooms, etc. I came across this little gem just hanging out on the edge of the trail in a cluster of weeds. Looking down finds me the best little creatures.Editing
I do not have Photoshop, and just purchased Lightroom last week. This photo was played with in Picasa. I turned up the contrast a bit. Not much more than that.In my camera bag
I have a Canon T3i. My lenses are the following: Canon 18-55mm, Canon 100mm Macro, Canon 50mm compact macro lens, Canon 70-300mm telephoto lens, and a Canon 50mm (although I'm not so great at taking human portraits).Feedback
The best thing I can stay is don't give up. I can spend hours crouched in a field of weeds just waiting on my subject to get comfortable so that I can get a good shot. I can take 30 photos of a bee, and only have one that is worth keeping. But that makes it so much fun. A lot of bugs will wander around to the other side of a stem and play peek a boo with you. After a bit, you can get some amazing photos.
