To take a similar photograph people would without doubt need to use a tripod, they will also need to open their Aperture to the widest setting (mine was f/4). Set your shutter speed to approx 10 seconds and your ISO to 2000. Focus on the moon or something far away. If there isn't enough light to do that, then set your focus on infinity but back off a tiny bit. Take test shots and adjust your shutter speed and/or your ISO to obtain a good exposure. Don't forget it will be night time, so we are talking a 'take to the left' photo but do not lose details at the dark end of your histogram. If the Aurora is moving quickly and you want to capture a more frozen in time look, then try to get your shutter speed down to between 4 and 8 seconds - again, you might have to boost your ISO to obtain this shutter speed.
