Behind The Lens
Location
Taken at South African Lipizzaners' Easter show on 05 April 2015Time
The shot was taken at about 11h30 and as it was an indoor facility, the midday sun was creeping through the windows on the right side of the arena. It threw beautiful streaks across the horses and riders as they passed by that side of the arena..Lighting
Used natural light available, no flash.Equipment
Canon EOS 650D; Sigma 18-250mm lens; Focal length 155mm; F-stop ƒ/6.3; Exposure 1/250s; ISO 4000; HandheldInspiration
I love horses and love capturing how they carry themselves: their beauty, pride, but humble and willing at the same time.Editing
I converted the colour shot to black and white in Photoshop CC. Tweaked the highlights and shadows and also filled in solid black where the wall of the arena still came through. In my camera bag
Since this shot, I've upgraded to a Canon 70D. My trusty 18-250mm sigma lens get's used 90% of the time. Also have a dedicated Canon EF 100mm F2.8 L IS USM Macro and Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC for when the occasion calls for it. And and extra battery for the camera!Feedback
As an amateur photographer, i believe that you should take as many shots as you can of the subject! Play around with your shots in the editing program of your choice, that way you will learn what is too much editing and what is just enough. although there are many courses available, I have found that diving into the programme, getting stuck and finding the solution, helps you to get to know your programme best. I believe that editing should improve the image and give you the ability/tools to create something special.
