Location
This photo was taken at my home in Rockville MD. This was the first time attempting food photography. I had no idea how meticulous each layout had to be. I was also surprised to hear about all the substitutes food photographers use to make their product look perfect. In this shot I actually used the real thing. Now I am studying up on all the tricks and techniques used to create all those mouthwatering works of art you see in the magazines and on television. This was more of a color, composition, and lighting test. However; I still liked how this one turned out.Time
It was around 6:30 pm.Lighting
I used (2) strobes, (2) umbrellas, reflector, and some small bookends. However, after doing this shot I realized that it was better to use natural light as much as possible. I was trying to make my lighting look like the real thing. It would have been easier to set it up by a window to grab the natural sunlight.Equipment
For the lighting I used (2) Whit lightning strobes, a reflector, and small bookends. For the surface I used a few sheets of fake wood flooring. All the cups and bolls where purchased from a thrift shop. The camera was a Cannon 5D Mark III.Inspiration
I wanted to expand my portfolio. I recently graduated from the Art Institute and I am trying to market myself for a wide range of things. That and I just love taking photos. I want to learn everything about everything.Editing
No. Not having to do a lot of post processing was surprising to me. I usually develop my images in Lightroom. Then I will use Photoshop to extract every ounce of ossumness that image has to offer. But when I began playing around with food photography, I realized that the more natural it looks the better. So I now only use Photoshop to adjust miner details. In my camera bag
When I go out to shoot, I want to be ready for anything. So I bring a big and heavy camera backpack. In this bag I have the following: Cannon 5D Mark III, Tamron 70 – 200 Lens, Tamron 15 – 30 Ultra-wide angle Lens, Tamron 90mm Macro Lens, Canon 24 – 105 Lens, (2) Canon 600EX-RT, and the Canon ST-E3-RT. In my SUV I will have (2) Flash stands, Large 7ft tripod, Small 4ft tripod, (2) umbrellas, (1) 5-1 reflector, and a portable battery pack for the lights. It's a bit overboard but I have what I need.Feedback
