I took this photo on my close friends family horse farm. I wanted more play time with my camera and lighting since I am mostly a self-taught photographer. My friend and I were hoping to beat the rain...but the rain beat us! So while we were waiting for it to pass we did some photos inside the barn.Time
Out of all of the photos I took that day June 6, 2013 at 10:30 AM, this one by far has stuck out the most. My friend and I wanted to do the photos early just to beat the rain, instead of doing the photos later that evening. Everything ended up working perfectly!Lighting
Even in a rain storm, some of the best lighting is possible. We opened up my friends huge barn door to allow more natural lighting into where we were shooting and ended up moving directly beside the barn door. I love natural lighting and what it can show and bering out in what I shoot.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon Rebel T2i. 55mm, (1/80 shutter speed, and f/4.0). No other equipment was used.Inspiration
In past years, I have always dressed up my own horses, but hadn't had the opportunity to "dress up" my friend and her horse which is a Tennessee Walking Horse, let alone capture the connection people can have with their horses.I wanted to capture the connection between my friend and her horse. We finally were able to match up our schedules and my friends mother had the perfect dress (which was actually her prom dress in her high school years), that we were able to use to give the "antique feel" that I love to strive for when dressing up.Editing
N/AIn my camera bag
In my camera bag I ALWAYS have extra batteries and memory cards! Along with my 35mm lens, 55mm lens, and my camera, of course. A pen, paper, business cards, camera lens cleaner. I usually don't like to be a pack rat when it comes to what I have in my camera besides the bare essentials of what I will need for each photo shoot.Feedback
Even in the rain, amazing shots are possible! When working with horses, bring your patience with you, because horses are the most unpredictable subject you could try to capture with your camera. Sometimes when working with horses, you just have to go with the flow, which makes things fun yet challenging. When capturing people and their horses, the less the person looks at you, and looks at the horse the more you can feel the invisible connection. Natural lighting is what I live for when shooting horses, it makes the photo seem more real.
