Behind The Lens

Location

I love to photograph birds in the wild, only I have a hard time spotting owls unless they are flying. Fortunately this lovely owl was being shown off at the Kansas City Zoo one morning when visiting there.

Time

This image was taken mid morning on an overcast day.

Lighting

The relatively flat lighting reduced shadows, giving a nice even light. As flash is prohibited with owls and most captive birds, this worked out perfectly!

Equipment

Nikon D5100 with a 70-300 mm Nikon lens.

Inspiration

The owls expression caught my eye, and with the long lens I could get a nice close up of the face.

Editing

No post-processing on this image.

In my camera bag

I carry the above mentioned Nikon D5100, with an assortment of lenses and filters and spare batteries and SD cards. I also carry a Canon SX710 HS compact camera for use when hiking or when weight is an issue.

Feedback

Always have a camera with you!!!
