Location
This image was taken at Upper Canjilon Lake, New Mexico.Time
This photo was taken mid-October, mid-morning, with a very light breeze rippling the surface of this small lake.Lighting
There were a few clouds but mostly the sky was a brilliant blue that I have seen only in the higher elevations of the Southwestern United States. The altitude was about 10K feet (3050 meters), so the air was quite clear. The reflection of the aspen stand at the lake shore caught my attention immediately.Equipment
Nikon D5100 F/6.3, ISO 200Inspiration
My wife and I were taking a class from Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, NM, entitled "Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints." When our teacher/guide dropped us off for an hour of hiking, my breath was taken away by the beauty of the whole area, fall colors, fantastic sky, great light, wildlife. My first thought was "I could spend a week here, no problem!" We spent a few minutes in quiet meditation at the lake shore to let the rest of the class disperse and get a feel for the area before raising the camera.Editing
Slight cropping was done to remove a small amount of shoreline. In my camera bag
I was carrying two lenses, a 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. I carry a couple of filters, and a Macro extension tube, but that is about it when hiking with a light pack or vest.Feedback
I look for small details and different ways of looking at things. It helps that my wife is an artist and offers suggestions also. Four eyes are better than two!!! I also shoot lots of images with different settings.
