Location
This is actually the singular surviving photo from a memory card that corrupted. Fi had travelled from the city to my humble little council flat to shoot something different for her portfolio. This one was on my bed, and the lighting was from the window.Time
It was shot around 3pm, but I don’t remember the time of year, maybe autumn?Lighting

I shot handheld - no tripod, no flash, no gimmicks. Just a Nikon D200. Old but bold.Inspiration
Honestly, I wanted to practice more with shooting indoors. I know the Nikon D200 doesn’t handle darkness as well, and with the camera being old, I presumed there’d be more sensor noise so I guess I was testing the camera limits.Editing
I wanted to see what it would look like if the contrast was really harsh, and I liked what I saw so I went with it. I suppose one could say it was an accident, but it led me in a direction enough to explore this style, so a happy accident, I’d say!In my camera bag
Honestly, when it comes to photography, I travel light. My standard kit these days is a Nikon D600 with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. If I’m going to be out a while, I’ll also take a speedlight. I don’t have a studio so I mostly shoot on location.Feedback
If you want to achieve something similar, play with light when you shoot, and shadows when you edit. There’s a world waiting right there.
