It was around 4pm, I was meeting a photographer friend whom I was friendly with, and I was still learning so I was pleased with this. It's of my baby sister who was only around 8 at the time.Lighting
At the time, I didn't really understand how lighting worked, I just liked the shadows and how odd it was. I wondered how different the image would look upside down, so that's what I did, and here we are! Learning through improvisation.Equipment
At the time it was a little Fuji film, a bridge camera. The concept of changing lenses even was foreign to me.Inspiration
I liked the shadow play, the way the rain made everything seem just the other side of sinister. Going from pretty flowers to this was quite a step, but one I enjoyed.Editing
For the most part, this was straight BW conversion, then a little contrast. I probably used piknik to do it, Lightroom was something I didn't know then.In my camera bag
These days I travel light - my Nikon d600 which carries 2 memory cards, and my f/2.8 24-70mm lens. It's my go-to.Feedback
If you guys want something like this, don't be afraid to turn your camera upside down, or stare at walls, or corners to see where the light is. You'll be amazed at what you can find.
