BMAD festival. It's a giant festival in Paignton celebrating the motorbike culture. Every Wednesday they have a small meet up, but annually, they have a large convention and I figured I'd check it out.Time
This was taken around 3pm, after about 275027 coffees.Lighting
There's not much I can say about lighting, it was a sunny but overcast day. Any extra lighting effects were added in post.Equipment
For this image, I used my trusty go-to set up. My Nikon D200 and my nifty fifty lens. It's the only equipment I have but it's a good and versatile combo.Inspiration
I took this for two reasons. 1, My dad loves bikes, and used to be a biker - but he can't ride anymore so I figured this was another way to show him. 2, I wanted to try a new photographic technique - panning. Something I'd not mastered before. Seemed to work okay, no?Editing
Post processing. Yes. I added a vignette to pull the focus to the middle of the image, where the bike is. And then I added a flat look to make it magazine-y. I needed to pull attention away from the background, and that seemed the best way to do it.In my camera bag
This question was answered above, I have limited equipment, unfortunately. Lack of funds doesn't help. My dream camera is a Nikon D810 though. That'd be a sexy camera to have.Feedback
If you guys want to try panning too, I shot this on shutter priority mode, so the camera did the exposure work for me. Then all I had to do was focus on the object - in this instance, the bike - wait for there to be movement, and snap away! Just make sure as the object is moving, so are you. It takes a little practice, this was not my first image from that day!
