Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in "Fort Bourtange", a star-shaped Fort centered in the small Dutch village Bourtange. During a autumn-fair there was a lady who had brought her precious birds and this was one of them.

Time

The photo was taken early in the afternoon. When we arrived at the fair there was a lot of sunlight but as we walked further the clouds came and the light changed.

Lighting

As seen on the photo it was a bright cloudy day, it wasnt grey but it wasnt sunny either.

Equipment

For this photo I used my Olympus Stylus compact camera, no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I always wanted to take a photo of an owl, I simply love owls! I even have a big tattoo of an owl on my arm and when we we're walking on this fair I was aiming to shoot some nice photo's of the fair and didn't expect to find something amazing like an actual owl.

Editing

This photo didn't need a lot of post-processing but I did take it to Lightroom and made it a little bit more sharp and cropped the photo slightly as the owl is sitting with it's feet on fake grass which I didn't like on the photo.

In my camera bag

When going out to this fair I took my Olympus Stylus and that would be it, but nowadays I get my new camera Olympus PEN e-pl5, my 40-150mm lens and a tripod! Then I know for sure nothing can go wrong.

Feedback

I was patient as I didn't expect to see this pretty bird. When we arrived I just stood still and waited till the owl moved it's face. As it kept moving I took several shots and found this one the perfect shot.
