Ok help me I have this same thing happening to me. How do you get rid of the blue in your trees and what causes it. Mark

That blue in the tree branches is caused by interpolation of the Bayer mask used on the image sensor. To avoid that effect, you might try one of the Sigma Foveon cameras which do not suffer from these artifacts.

Behind The Lens

Location

There is an Oak forest on the east side of the Manzano Mountains, southeast of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In that forest is the "4th of July Campground" with numerous trails and roads. It was there I found this fall scene.

Time

We had finished our picnic lunch and started to explore. Mid-afternoon we stopped for this scene.

Lighting

Skies were brilliantly clear with a few scattered clouds.

Equipment

I had just acquired a Canon xTi 10 megapixel camera and borrowed a friend's 85mm prime autofocus lens with no filters or hood. The scene framed nicely!

Inspiration

Our trip that day was to view and photograph the fall colors in an oak forest. There was a smattering of Aspen along this road which made a compelling contrast to the red oak leaves.

Editing

In post, the image is slightly cropped, histogram levels adjusted and saturation boosted. Then I applied a frame, though not necessary, does seem to improve the appearance. Frames are a debatable subject and I usually do not use them as they can also be a distraction!

In my camera bag

I usually carry only one camera with extra batteries and image cards. I usually have at least a UV filter and sometimes my "Mooses" filter, which is a warming and polarizing filter.

Feedback

The right time of year, the right location, the right gear and a willingness to seek the scenes you like to photograph, will usually result in some excellent photos!
