Location
Taken in the Elena Gallegos picnic area, east of Albuquerque in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains.Time
Early afternoon with bright sunlit conditions and scattered clouds.Lighting
Typical bright sunlit outdoor shot, be careful of over exposed highlights!Equipment
The camera I used was new for me, a Nikon Coolpix P510, point and shoot camera. The camera's primary attraction for me was its extraordinary 42X zoom lens, with a maximum equivalent focal length of 1000mm. But the camera has some drawbacks as well, like no 'raw' image capability!Inspiration
This little lizard sunning himself atop a granite boulder was irresistible! I did not have high hopes of getting a clean image, but was pleasantly surprised, as this was taken at 1000mm, hand held! The camera image stabilizing is exceptionally effective!Editing
This is actually a composite of two images, one for the lizard in the foreground and then another mountain shot for the background. You can see where I did not do a perfect job of selecting the images with some small artifacts around the lizard's back. The mountain was present in the original shot of the lizard, but too out of focus to be recognizable. In my camera bag
Usually I carry a camera, sometimes two cameras, filters, extra batteries and image cards.Feedback
Keep a sharp eye out for the unusual. This little guy on top of a huge boulder was totally unexpected. Fortunately, he felt safe enough and remained rock steady while I photographed from several distances and angles.
