This photo is take in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada from a viewpoint below an area of the forest cut out by power lines constructionTime
This was taken in the morning at sunrise.Lighting
The sun is rising almost directly behind me, the photo was taken just as the sun was rising over the mountain behind me and hitting the trees in front of me.Equipment
This is taken with a Nikon D600 and a Nikon 70-300mm lens, the camera is on a Sirui T-2005X tripodInspiration
In the fall Maple Ridge often gets a lot of fog in the morning. I went out to shoot the sunrise one morning and couldn't see anything with the fog, so I thought, what if I get above the fog, that will make a cool photo. So, I started to look for a viewpoint from the mountains and hills north of the city. It took a while to find this place and multiple hikes to get the location because it is a clearing that was cleared to make way for power lines. I had to find a whole in a fence to get access. So, after I found the viewpoint during the day I set out early one morning before sunrise when it looked like it would be foggy and I was rewarded with this view and photo.Editing
Just some minor color, contrast and sharpening touchups in lightroom and photoshop. In my camera bag
I normally have my D600 and a variety of lenses.Feedback
Scout out the location before hand, when I arrived at this location I couldn't see anything because of the fog. I got there before sunrise and sat in the fog for a good half an hour before it cleared and I captured the photo. Within 30 minutes of me taking this photo all the fog had burned off and was gone so timing is the key.
