This photo was taken in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands, I was on a diving trip and knew of the potential for great daytime shots on the island.Time
This was taken in the morning prior to going out Scuba diving. You can see the reefs in the foreground and the very dark patch at the back is where the drop off begins, over the reef shelf, we descended about 100 feet. The drop off goes down approximately 7000 feet! An Abyss!Lighting
It was a rather strong sun glare with the potential for chromatic aberrations so I used my equipment accordingly.Equipment
I was using the Canon 7D SLR and the Canon 70-300mm with image stabilizer. I didn't want to scare the horses away as they are wild on the Island and using a distance lens seemed appropriate. I used a polarizer filter to decrease the harshness of the light and bring out the glare off the ocean so I could properly catch the reefs.Inspiration
I just love catching Nature unscripted like in zoo shots. I wanted to depict how life for the wildlife is in remote places plus the fact that it was so beautiful a contrast between the colors.Editing
I increased the contrast and clarity as well as a little sharpening in Lightroom 5. I also increased the chestnut hues in the horses coats.In my camera bag

Stand in the shade and watch your angle from the sun, use a long range with zoom so as not to disturb your subject when animals are around. Use your judgement on framing the subject and if it's sunny, use a high f-stop unless you are going for a bokeh themed shot.
