Location
This photo was taken in the forest of the Black Mountain in southern France ; about 10kms from home ...Time
Mr RAW says it was '4.40 pm' in January (winter here). I remember it was a 'not so clod' day, and here it means a lot of fog :)Lighting
Natural light was poor, coming from behind-left the car ; due to fog, I had to wait between 'waves' to take the pictures (about 20shots), because when the fog was at its maxima, I couldn't even see the car^^ (less than ten meters)Equipment
I use here a Sony A65 (APS-C) camera, coupled with one of my old-but-so-good lenses : the Minolta AF 28mm f:2,8 In this case of photography, there are many ways for a photographer to capture the fog, it's quite easy ; there are also many many different results, and I like this one very much^^ It's made with a ND filter that I can't exactly remember the level (ND1000 I guess), the aperture is fixed at f:11, with a huge 20secs. for time expo. During the process, I manually trigged (2, maybe 3 times) a cobra flash in the direction of the car, and Mr RAW says that the ridiculous camera's little flash also trigged once. I had a tripod with me, but I didn't used it ; the camera is placed on the ground here.Inspiration
I usually don't like garbage in the forests :/ it really makes me sad ; but I found this one so cool, so magic, coming from nowhere, appearing and fading away with the fog ... A Viewbug member told me that 'Harry Potter was here' ... After all, why not? :)Editing
No matter how I tried, colors and contrast were a real pity :( They are both enhanced in post-process, something like less green, more blue & magenta. Contrast is enhanced too.In my camera bag
I only have 1 camera, so, no matter what kind of photo I plan to take, it's always a Sony A65 SLT, with APS-C captor When I go out alone, for nature photography, I usually take 3 kind of lenses : - a fixed focal with big aperture abilities like Minolta AF 28mm f:2,8 - a macro lens like Industar-61 L/Z MC 50mm f2,8 - a zoom lens like Minolta "BeerCan" AF 70-210mm f4 that I can change into 140-420mm with a focal x2 multiplier - a standard tripod + a flexible one, like Gorillapod - a cobra flash, 2 if I have some left place in my bag - ND filters and other little accessories, like focal magnifier, or cleaning tissuesFeedback
Never not hesitate to walk, and walk more, to find the right place ... Never hesitate to come, and come again, to find the right moment ... And make many, many tries ... As often in photography, the balance between aperture and time expo. is THE KEY for playing with light, and it will produce many different results ; you just have to find the one you love, the one who perfectly matches your mood of the day ;)
