Location
This photo was taken at my wife's village, at her grandparents' house. The grandparents have both passed away for a few years now and this was a visit at the old house.Time
As far as I remember, it was around 17.00-18.00 o'clock in the afternoon, when we returned from the cemetery. It was then that we stopped to place some flowers at the house as well.Lighting
Actually this photo wasn't scheduled. So it was just the day light. Actually I took my camera to shoot the old house (behind them). Meanwhile they just sat down on the front stairs and started talking. I made some shots and I did not even realize this moment. It was just then, when I was reviewing the pictures, that I have realized that this may be a good photo.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a Canon EF 28-135 F3.5-5.6, ISO 200, 1/60 at F4. I did not use any other equipment, because I did not schedule this shot. It was a moment's shot. Actually I even lost the focus to be perfect :(Inspiration
As I have mentioned, I was there to take some shots of the old house. Actually that is an over 100 years old house. In the meantime my wife and her mother sat on the stairs and started to talk about memories. At this moment, my wife started crying and her mother was calming her down.Editing
I made some post-processing, yes. Transformed in black and white and tried to get them into the scene. But if you take a look at the original image, you'll notice that there is not a big difference, excepting that the original is a color picture. All I did was to try to sharpen a little bit and some dodge and burn. But nothing to alter the image. In my camera bag
At that moment I had only 2 lenses, both of a low quality. If you ask me now, I have a 17-55 at 2.8, I have a macro lens at 135 mm and always a tele, 70-200 at constant 2.8. Some triggers, 1 or 2 speed light and tripod, mono pod. This is all I take with me now on all of my trips.Feedback
It is hard to give advice, because as I have told you, this was not a prepared occasion. It was just an accidental shot. Since that moment, I have always tried to catch the moment in the street, games etc and see people's faces, reactions. I like to do that. I can get nice photos in this way.
