This photo was made in the studio. I had an idea of creating Cruella De Vil with body paint, in which she takes photos with some Dalmatians and steals their spots. This photo was a lucky one because the dog cooperated with us.Time
The shooting took a good few hours. We started at around 10 in the morning and we finished late at night. I believe that the time isn't relevant, but the momentLighting
I used a single light, an Elinchrom 190 cm, Indirect Litemotiv. I wanted to have the model in soft lightEquipment
The equipment that was used was a Canon 7D MK ll with a Sigma 17-55 objective and BRX Elinchrom lights. It is a small studio which doesn't have new things. I'd like some ELB500Inspiration
I like cartoons and animated movies and I like challenges, so I talked with a friend that does body painting and we decided to do a series of photos inspired by cartoons. This shooting was about Cruella de Vil and the 101 Dalmatians. We wanted to show that she would do anything to steal the spots from the dogs, and that in the end these spots appear on her skin. We have a lot of photos from this shooting but most of them are compositions. Cruella driving a Bugatti in full winter, Cruella in a museum with painting of spots etc.Editing
On this image I did a bit of photo processing. It is almost Out of camera. I did a bit of frequency separation, background cleanup, Dodge and burn and colour grading after. I don't think that there are more than 10 layers overall. It was simple compared to a composite imageIn my camera bag
I usually work in the studio, I don't really go out for shootings, maybe only for nature photography. For that I only bring my cameraFeedback
I think that the idea and preparation matters. To be frank, I didn't think that this photo would make such a big impact. For this shooting I searched for a fur coat, I 3D printed the pipe, I studied the scenes from the cartoon and I searched on the internet about Cruella. I invested more time in the preparation than the shooting itself. We want to continue this body painting+cartoons series and we are already preparing for scenes from Jungle Book and Frozen
