I took this when I was staying in Falcon, a village near Perth in Western Australia. I was enjoying the beach and lovely weather when I noticed this young man persistently trying to catch the perfect wave. I took many shots of his actions and my persistence won through to catch this really nice shot of his eventual success.Time
It was mid morning.Lighting
I was pleased to be shooting when the light was not too contrasty and as it turned out it was perfect.Equipment
If I can remember correctly, I was using sport mode on my Nikon 5100 and of course my long zoom lens, Sigma 18-250 mm, 6.3. I didn't use a tripod.Inspiration
I was aiming to get some good, interesting shots on this holiday and this young man who was trying so hard to achieve his aim was a perfect subject. He was trying over and over again to perfect his goal and I admired the determination to get it right.Editing
Not much post processing. Just adjustment of exposure to daylight checking the colour and some sharpening but not much.In my camera bag
My equipment is very simple as travelling makes you lighten up with weight restrictions. Just my Nikon, standard 50mm lens and my Sigma zoom lens.Feedback
Just persevere and take lots of shots until you get the perfect one you are trying to achieve. Thanks to digital, you can trash all the awful ones and keep the best. Try different settings too. I use my landscape setting a lot as this gets the best focus with Matrix setting.
