Location
This is a combination of photographs I took. The elephants were living at Kariba Dam and I was lucky enough to have a wonderful houseboat trip around the lake for 7 days with my family. It was 3 different shots. The tree is an Umdoni Tree which I photographed in Pennington, Natal near a wonderful retirement village named after this tree.Time
Elephants late afternoon. and the Tree in the morning after a lovely walk.Lighting
The late afternoon light was complementary to the elephants.Equipment
Nikon D5100. Sigma Zoom Lens 18-250mm3.5-6.3Inspiration
I enjoy compos and wanted to depict the elephants in the dust. I loved the shape of the tree and it seemed to lend itself to the composition.Editing
After processing the RAW pictures into psd, I cut out each elephant and worked out the best placement for them using layers. The tree as well and once I found the correct composition I used the painting brush to create the dust effect. In my camera bag
Just my camera, zoom and standard lens.Feedback
Just experiment with various photographs until you get the desired effect. I love to try and use different backgrounds; eg. grunge sometimes if it is suitable of course. Also Photoshop paint brushes are really fun to get misty and dusty effects. Enjoy and have a go.
