Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Utah on our way south to Moab from SLC. My wife and I were driving south when it started to sleet a little. All of a sudden, this scene appeared and I had to pull over and capture it.

Time

This was taken mid afternoon late in May.

Lighting

What can I say, nature took care of the lighting on this one. It was all timing.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5D, 24-105mm L F/4 Lens, remote release, and a Gitzo Tripod & ballhead.

Inspiration

Utah is full of inspiration and the state has so many perfect vistas, I could spend an eternity there. Inspiration lies over every hill and around every corner. I can't wait to return!

Editing

Given the time of day and the mixed conditions, I shot this -2, 0, +2 and merged in Photomatix.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon 5D, Gitzo Tripod & Ballhead, 24-105mm F/4 L, 100mm /2.8 Macro, 16-35mm F/4 L, 580EXII, and my Canon S95 is always in my pocket for a Utah trip. I'll occasionally bring a 100-400mm if I know I'll need to get close up.

Feedback

Utah offers many beautiful shots and opportunity is everywhere. Setup somewhere with a view and watch the atmosphere change, be patient and take the shot when everything falls into place.
