Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near the Central Drakensberg region in South Africa.

Time

This was in November, so the sun went down at about 5:30Pm - 5:45PM. It was around this time we went for a stroll and saw this beautiful landscape as the sun came out from the clouds to say goodbye. And even though the grass is green and its almost summer in the southern hemisphere, it was extremely cold.

Lighting

Nothing strange about the lighting. It was just before the sun set and we were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time.

Equipment

Canon 550D

Inspiration

The natural landscape of the Drakensberg is inspiration enough, but watching the horses grazing with this amazing background gave a sense of calmness and tranquillity, and that is what I was hoping to capture

Editing

Definitely. Landscapes need some processing done so the photo looks just like you saw it at that moment. I usually play around with exposure and contrast.

In my camera bag

Camera (now Nikon D3200) and kit lenses with a tripod. Basic, light and convenient.

Feedback

Capturing landscapes is always a waiting game, and also luck. If you have an idea, check out how it would look at different times of the day. Sometimes luck might be on you side, so always have your gear ready to shoot. And just take pictures of everything beautiful.
