Location
I took the image in the family room of my home. My stepson was sitting on a sofa holding his new son so, naturally, I took the opportunity to grab some images.Time
It was taken at 4.14 PM when some of this fine fellow's family was visiting us and dad was proudly showing him off.Lighting
I simply used the available light in the room. Some would have come from a skylight a couple of feet behind me and the remainder from windows further behind me. Plus, of course, reflected light off walls around us.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D700 with Tamron 28-300 zoom at the 65mm point of the zoom. No flash, no tripod. Nothing else at all.Inspiration
Why wouldn't I want photos of my latest grandson, especially since he was born prematurely at 33 weeks and had survived? As the image shows, Toby was still small enough to fit comfortably in his father's hands and I liked that very much - the sense of safety and security in the hands of dad.Editing
Apart from cropping off a bit of dad's bearded chin from the top of the frame I did nothing by way of post processing. In my camera bag
My kit is normally the Nikon D700 with Tamron 28-300 zoom. I do own a decent flash and tripod but they are rarely used. My other cameras and lenses also tend to stay at home these days. My iPhone is always with me and, from time to time, gets used to capture something - especially when I have no other gear with me.Feedback
My advice is to keep your viewfinder at your eye and shoot quickly and often as you see expressions that need to be captured. I believe too many people miss the best shots because they are too slow to push the shutter. I do not use burst shooting, preferring to keep watching and reacting super quickly.
