Simply enough, I take photos wherever and whenever I can and make the best of whatever background is given to me. With this photo I was in a art class room.Time
Early afternoon was the time of day this photo was taken.Lighting
For this photo I tried my best to steer away from any movement as possible in the photo. In order to do that in a busy classroom atmosphere, I went to the back where there are windows and used the sunlight as my lighting.Equipment
When this photo was taken I was in an art class and our given tool to take pictures with was an Apple Ipad. I used the case that came with it, and used it as a tripod to provide stability in a constantly moving room.Inspiration
Being in an art class at the time, our project was to take a picture of yourself, print it, cut out a chuck of it, and physically draw the rest in. This photo was one of many shots I took with the given tool to use, the Apple Ipad, that didn't make it the cut for the project. Even after the project was eventually completed I still liked this photo and found it to good to be deleted. So instead of using this photo as an assigned project, I turned it into my own project that is now the final product of being the photo you see now.Editing
Not following my usual of leaving photos untouched, I decided that this particular photo needed a little extra help. I felt that the original had to much contrast overall leaving the picture without much of a variety of texture. Nevertheless, I took the contrast down quite a bit, causing an immediate difference in shadowing. Next the picture needed some softer edging done throughout it, to do that I drew the focus towards the face and hair. Additionally, I used a picture softening tool to eliminate the background almost completely altogether. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I always have my Canon Powershot SX150 IS, which is a treasured gift from my dad. I absolutely love the camera, it's features, and the effortless quality pictures it creates. The only real problems it has ever brought would be going through batteries like crazy. It was a problem until I discovered rechargeable batteries last longer in this great camera, and it's true to the name rechargeable. Recently I was very lucky to stumble upon a very cheaply priced Olympus Stylus 850 SW that might I add, is also shock and waterproof. Being a huge Canon fan, I'll admit I was a bit skeptical at first at it's potential in the picture quality world. My doubts were soon diminished as this new camera bag addition has proven itself far better than I would have expected. Lastly lets not forget the basics that run the show SD cards, spare batteries, and occasionally my mini tripod and mirror.Feedback
Not having a whole lot of fancy expensive equipment myself, which I feel is unnecessary anyway, my pictures are usually done quite simply. Making the best of the day by planning ahead helps a lot when using sun as natural lighting. Getting to know what your tools can do and how to use them is a huge key factor in taking great pictures the first time without having to edit them later on. I highly encourage to play around with settings of your camera, including manual settings if you have a digital camera. For this picture I wasn't experienced with the tool provided, an Apple Ipad, so the original picture required some retouching.
