This photo was taken in my backyard. Each year we grow Sunflowers along our fence line. This year they were spectacular.Time
Each morning as the sun comes over the tree tops in my neighbors yard our Sunflowers become even more alive. In the late morning in July as I looked out our kitchen window I noticed how beautiful the sun was on these flowers. This photo was taken at 11:05 AM.Lighting
I wanted to highlight the contrast of the bright yellows and reds and oranges that the late morning sun made pop against the dark clouds in the sky to the west.Equipment
I used my Pentax K-x with a Sigma 70-300 mm zoom lens. I zoomed into a focal length of 190 mm shooting at f/7.1, 1/500 sec and an ISO of 400. I used my telephoto lens so I could isolate the starburst effect of the Sunflower against the dark clouds to the west.Inspiration
Through my photography I attempt to notice and then capture moments of beauty so I can then share that experience and awareness with others. As I looked out my kitchen window the sun, the colors and the sky caught my attention.Editing
I shoot my photos in RAW and process them with Photoshop Elements. This photo required very little processing. I only increased the black and the contrast levels to slightly darken the image. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I always carry my Pentax K-x and four lenses: a Pentax 18-55 mm, a 50 mm Macro and a 50-200 mm telephoto and a Sigma 70-300 mm telephoto. I also carry two Neutral Density filters and a circular Polarize filter for two of my Pentax lenses and a couple of sets of backup batteries. In a separate case I carry a sturdy tripod and my flexible Joby tripod.Feedback
Look for different angles to shoot from and don't be afraid to take a lot of photos. That morning in about 20 minutes I probably took 10 to 15 pictures. this is the one photo that best captured what I saw and experienced.
