What a beautiful little ballerina. I would have bought her everything!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Howard Auditorium at Louisiana Tech university. Kaylee was at her first ballet rehearsal.

Time

The photo was taken May 31, 2014 at 4:00 in the afternoon

Lighting

The lighting was mostly from the auditorium lights and the natural light coming from the glass doors which were right in front of the stairway.

Equipment

My camera is a Nikon D3200. In this photo I had a 50mm f/1.8G lens. Settings were: Aperture: f/1.8 Shutter speed: 1/125s Mode: Aperture Priority Metering: Center-weighted ISO: 1100

Inspiration

She had gotten board waiting to go into the recital, and was disinterested in posing for photos, her interest was in the booth that a vender was setting up full of trinkets and toys. I really enjoy taking photos after everyone forgets that the camera is there and capturing the moments that are real.

Editing

I do not do any post processing at all to this photo,.

In my camera bag

The equipment I always carry in my bag is my camera (Nikon D3200), 50mm f/1.8G lens and 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens, three batteries, tripod, a few basic filters, and my camera phone.

Feedback

The best advice I could think of in capturing a photo like this is to sit back and let the situation develope. Just be an observer of people and pay attention to faces and emotions. A lot of the time we get caught up trying to direct the photo, or controls the mood, to get the "perfect" shot. Then when you think you have it, moving on. The best photos sometimes happen when everything gets more relaxed. Be patient and observe.
