The building wasn't finished at that time, in fact the library opened the first of may, about a week ago....

Libraries are a continues subject of discussion in The Netherlands. The "old" model, hiring books, is no longer valid. Libraries should become more a meeting center, getting inspiration by socialising, studying, discussion and just have a private moment, you alone with your book(s).
All these aspects can be found in this new library as I will show in a series of pictures to come.
Besides this new idea of how a library should work, this library is also a lot of eye-candy by his standard of architecture. Here we see an impression of the stairwell.

In 2010 is Dura Vermeer gestart met de bouw van het Eemhuis te Amersfoort in opdracht van de Gemeente Amersfoort. Het multifunctioneel cultureel centrum Eemhuis is ontworpen door Neutelings Riedijk architecten.

Vier belangrijke culturele Amersfoortse instellingen vestigen zich in het Eemhuis. Het wordt een bijzonder en inspirerend centrum. Scholen in de Kunst, bibliotheek Eemland, Archief Eemland en KAdE krijgen in totaal bijna 15.000 vierkante meter tot hun beschikking.

Het gebouw is georganiseerd als een verticale stapeling van de aanwezige instellingen die de continuïteit van het publieke domein versterken in het gebouw. Op de begane grond wordt het publieke plein een overdekte ruimte, die dienst doet als de foyer van het poppodium. Aan de andere kant vormt het plein stapsgewijs de terrasvormige bibliotheek.

De bovenste verdieping van de bibliotheek heeft een grote open ruimte met uitzicht op de stad. Daarboven zweeft het Archief Eemland dat het plafond van de ruimte vormt. De "zolder" van het centrum herbergt Scholen in de Kunst. De drie afdelingen kunsten (theater & dans, beeldende kunst en muziek) van de school zijn vormgegeven als de afzonderlijke vrijdragende elementen die de kroon van het centrum vormen.
