Breaking Dawn

Sunrises are highly under-rated. They come by every day, and herald in the challenges of life ahead, along with opportunity to make the most of, and experiences to be had. Unfortunately, on a cold winter morning, it can be a bit of a struggle to wake up and greet one.

This is a shot that I took during an early morning photoshoot that I did during the southern winter for 2012. After a month of rainy weather, the clear days were only too inviting. I needed little encouragement to wake up to answer the call of dawn.

This particular spot is along the beach front at Sorento, at the bottom end of Port Philip Bay. It is right in front of the Sorento Baths.

Its easy to lose one's bearings while driving around the bay. I was under the impression that the sun would come up behind where I stationed myself. Happily enough, it came up over the horizon directly in front of me at the end of the pier. What more can one ask for on an amazing morning?
