Strahan is the gateway to the Gordon River – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that ticks the seven of the ten boxes required to make a site eligible to being classified as one. I boarded a cruise that left at 8:30am out of the port, and headed out to Macquarie Heads and Hell’s Gate before making its way in upstream through the Gordon River. After passing through an assortment of salmon and trout farms, the boat ventured upon a zone of water that was mirror flat.

The tannic acid rich waters of the river served as a perfect reflecting surface when calm, reflecting almost all light that fell on it. The shorelines of the Gordon River are lined with Huon Pines and Blackwood Trees. The Huon Pines, with age, tend to lean over till such time that they reach the surface of the water as seen above, and are perfectly reflected on a calm day.
