I stood about 7,000 feet up Oregon's Mt. Hood, just outside the Silcox Hut, while a wedding reception carried on inside, and I saw the Milky Way soaring from the peak of the mountain 4000 feet above me, stretching overhead, and clear back behind me where it disappeared over the city of Portland.
The sky was impossibly clear that fall night, no clouds, no light pollution there on the mountain, just a stretch of warm light from the hut on the ground, and stars as far as I could see. I'm incredibly lucky to have seen so many amazing, simple things.
