MOTHER POLAR BEARS WILL ONLY HAVE AS MANY CUBS AS THEIR BODY FAT WILL SUPPORT. THE AVG USE TO BE 3 BUT WITH THE POLAR ICE MELTING THEIR FEEDING TIME FOR SEALS HAS BEEN SHORTENED AND THEY DROPPED TO 2 CUBS IN 1990'S AND WHEN WE WERE THERE IN 2006 MOST HAD ONLY ONE CUB AND WE RARELY SAW A SPECIAL MOM WITH 2. THEY WILL NURTURE THEIR CUB FOR 2 TO 2 1-2 YEARS AND THEN LEAVE THEM. THAT IS THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME FOR THE CUB AS THE LARGER MALES WILL ATTACK AND EAT THEM.
