This photo was taken by the lake shore in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The lake shore is a pleasant place where people go to walk at the end of the day or just have a picnic while watching the sunset. You can't notice but there is a big metropolis with skyscrapers behind me.Time
It was a hot day in the summer and we had had a storm in the afternoon. By 7PM the rain stopped and the clouds started to clear up. The funniest thing about this shot is that a big party was going on at this exact place but I took them out of the composition. It was the carnival party with maybe a couple thousand people jumping and dancing that could be seen if I had pointed the camera a little lower than this.Lighting
Obvious to say that the big hit of this shot is the lighting. The natural lighting and the low key formed but the contour of the vegetation merging with the hills in the horizon paints an awesome skyscape. To me it is very nice to have clouds in the sky. I personally don't think a perfect blue sky without clouds contribute to much to a picture, so I love the shots that I obtain when it just rained and the wheather is clearing up.Equipment
I guess for this shot I used my old Canon Rebel XSI with stock lens. No flash, no filters and a beautiful lens flare to crown the sun.Inspiration
Porto Alegre's lake shore is a very popular place in town. But it is so crowded sometimes and you have downtown right behind it. I wanted to fool with the viewer, because this was taken in a densely populated and urbanized place but the shot makes it look like the ideal spot to sit, chant a mantra and meditate.Editing
Just regular LR workflow, emphasizing the contrast, poping colors and reducing noise. In my camera bag
Nowadays I just carry my Canon 6D, 50mm, 24-105 IS L mm, some ND filters, UV filters, remote, extra batteries, a speedlight 550 ETTL flash and alka seltzer.Feedback
It matters to me more than it matters to others. I believe every photographer's cunundrum is if whether satisfy our viewers or ourselves. Sometimes, people recognize more the "easy" shots than the ones it took you three days of lighting study to obtain. Keep that in perspective and understand what is worth at the end of your day.
