Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the outlet of Desolation Lake. Desolation Lake is west of Mt. Humphrey's in the Sierra Nevada, CA. The granite ridge in the Glacier Divide. This area is accessible via the Humphrey's Basin trail out of Bishop. The lake itself is a cross-country trek with no marked trail.

Time

This photo was taken the day after a severe thunder storm, at about noon.

Lighting

Natural light and luck.

Equipment

I used a small, pocket Olympus camera.

Inspiration

The sheer beauty of the natural colors inspired me. The puffy white clouds, the green grass and colorful wildflower were just stunning. We felt like we were in paradise.

Editing

I adjusted the saturation a bit in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I carry an Olympus XZ-10 and a solar battery charger so I always have power on long backpacking trips.

Feedback

For me, getting out there and always opening your eyes to different angles and viewpoints is the key. You have to be there to get the shot and for me that means always having my camera handy when hiking and backpacking.
