......male Painted Buntings are known for their fabulous colors however the female is a perfect green for camouflage .... both are rarely seen as they are usually foraging in the thickets of bushes and tall grasses ....however you may catch a colorful male singing at the tops of branches in the early morning
.....a juvenile male looks exactly like its mother .... all green ...and the only way to discern the two is if the juvenile is on the tops of a tree singing ...that is because only the males sing as a rule .....
..... this coloring and the size of the bird at 1300mm made it especially difficult to get a true focus on the bird itself ...I would have moved closer but they are quite shy and immediately dive into the brush or to another branch further away
