I was surprised to see such a tiny island flourishing with lush tall trees in the middle of such a large river. A major tributary of the Amazon River, its current was both strong and fluctuated in height over the seasons. I suspect the island would have long ago been washed away were it not for the mass of tree roots that were tying it to the bottom of the river.
