The Hidden Galaxy lies roughly 10.75 million light years away in the constellation of Camelopardalis. That's relatively close in astronomical terms, but it also lies very close to the equator of the Milky Way's galactic disc, so one is basically shooting through a large amount of cosmic dust, gas, and stars to take an image. This was a challenge to shoot between the weather and the low position on the horizon earlier in the spring, but the challenge is what makes this final image that much more special. 124x300sec lights, 71x300sec Hydrogen-alpha filtered shots, 32x30sec shots for the stars, all integrated into this finished picture of one of the closest neighboring galaxies to our own.
