Native to Asia from Pakistan to China they were first seen on Oahu Island in Hawaii in the 1950s, and are thought to have been illegally released. They are considered a highly damaging invasive species causing hundreds of thousands of dollars by feeding on orchid buds, papaya, guava and dozens of other plant species. I spotted this checking out some of the plants outside one in the exhibits in the Honolulu Zoo.
