Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a visit to Liverpool Cathedral with my family last month (February ‘23)

Time

The photo was taken at 15:00 and it was an overcast day

Lighting

Given the cloud coverage, and it being indoors in a gigantic space, there wasn’t a huge amount of light, but the camera handled the details quite well using an iso of only 1600. I know I could have used a higher iso but I wanted to keep as much detail as possible

Equipment

This was was a handheld capture. I had several attempts with setting up the photo in order to get it central to show the symmetry

Inspiration

My wife and I lived in Liverpool several years ago and remembered how beautiful the cathedral is. I have wanted to revisit for a while to take some photos

Editing

I used Lightroom for some mild editing - to straighten up and to make it slightly brighter

In my camera bag

I have a minimal amount of equipment - just my trusty Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter with its 28mm f1.7 Summilux lens, along with a red and an orange filter

Feedback

My only advice would be to take your time to set up the camera and frame. Due to the poor lighting, just experiment with different iso settings
