Behind The Lens
Location
This is an ex colleague of mine who kindly agreed to me taking some photos of him. It was my first portrait session - usually focus my energy on street photography. The photo was taken in his lounge and you may notice the brick fireplace in the backgroundTime
The photograph was taken at around midday one day last autumnLighting
One of the reasons for using his lounge as the location was the natural lighting - it seemed to perfectly fall on his complexionEquipment
I used my Leica Q2 Monochrom (with its fixed 28mm f1.7 Summilux lens), handheld.Inspiration
I really like interesting faces that can tell a story. Garry, however, is a very creative man and he is always using his hands to create sculptures, models, toys for his grandson, etc. so I (and he for that matter) wanted to show his hands in the photos I capturedEditing
I used Adobe Lightroom to adjust the levels and to darken the background slightly to amplify the details on his face and handIn my camera bag
I sometimes use my iPhone 11 Pro if I see something in colour that catches my eye, otherwise itβs just my Q2 MonochromFeedback
It helps to build up a rapport with the model, I think you then begin to see a truthful character of the model shine through
