Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my house in Warwickshire, UK. I have recently regained my interest in photography and I enjoy finding a variety of subjects to experiment with

Time

This was taken just before lunch and ‘Dottie’ was fed up waiting for us to take her for her walk

Lighting

I only really use available light. Dottie had positioned herself perfectly for light coming in through the lounge window. I wanted the background to be as dark as possible so her fur gave some nice contrasting tones

Equipment

I used my Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter (with fixed 28mm Summilux lens), handheld

Inspiration

My daughter had her school photo taken earlier in the week which looked really rushed and not very well setup. So I was taking her photo and Dottie felt left out

Editing

I generally take my photos at -1 ev because with the monochrome sensor I find it can easily blow out the highlights. I used Lightroom Classic to raise the brightness

In my camera bag

The beauty of my camera is that it needs very little equipment generally. Just the camera, a spare battery and spare SD card

Feedback

Choose the right timing. This includes the correct lighting conditions, and when the pet/animal is in the correct mood to be in front of the lens… you can’t force the right response or natural light (unless you have some other source of light instead)
